Privacy Policy

Witoh is built around what people share with each other, so it matters that you understand what we hold and why. This policy is written to be read, not to be skipped.

What this policy covers

This policy explains what information Witoh collects, why we collect it, and what happens to it. It applies to the Witoh mobile app, this website at witohapp.com, and anything else we operate that links to this policy.

Witoh is operated by Witoh. Where this policy says “we”, it means Witoh.

We have tried to write this in ordinary language. If any part of it is unclear, ask us — the address is at the end.

Information you give us

When you create an account and use Witoh, you give us information directly:

  • Account details — the identifier you sign up with, such as a phone number or email address, and a username.
  • Profile information — a display name, a photo and anything else you choose to add to your profile. What you put here is up to you; you can leave optional fields empty.
  • Messages you send us — if you contact support or report something, we keep the message and our reply so we can deal with it.

Content you create

Witoh exists so that you can record and share experiences, so the app necessarily stores what you create in it: posts and the text you write, photos and videos you upload, reactions and comments, and the experiences you keep with other people.

Photos and videos may carry information of their own, such as the time they were taken or where they were taken, depending on your device settings.

Who can see a particular piece of content depends on where you put it and the options the app gives you at the time. Content shared with a group of people can be seen — and may be kept — by the people in that group.

Permissions you grant on your device

Some features need access to parts of your device. We ask for these at the moment they are needed, and you can refuse or withdraw them in your device settings. Refusing a permission disables the feature that depends on it; it does not stop you using the rest of Witoh.

  • Camera and photo library — so you can capture or choose the photos and videos you post.
  • Location — where you grant it, to attach or find a place. Depending on the permission you give, this can be approximate or precise. We do not track your location in the background.
  • Contacts — only if a feature that needs them is offered and you explicitly turn it on. Witoh does not read your contacts without that separate, deliberate consent.
  • Notifications — so we can tell you about activity that involves you.

Device and usage information

Like any app, Witoh receives some technical information automatically when you use it: device model and operating system version, app version, language and region settings, general connection information such as IP address, and identifiers used to keep you signed in and to deliver notifications.

We also record how the app is used at a basic level — which screens are opened, which actions fail, and diagnostic information when something crashes. This is what tells us the app is broken before you have to tell us.

Signing in

Signing in requires proving that the account is yours, usually through a code sent to the phone number or email address on the account. We keep a record of sign-ins so we can spot and stop suspicious activity.

Witoh will never ask you for a one-time code, and no member of our team will ever ask you to forward one. See the security page for what to do if someone does.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • provide Witoh — show you your content, and show your content to the people you shared it with;
  • create and secure your account, and verify that it is you signing in;
  • send notifications about activity that involves you, and service messages you need to receive;
  • keep Witoh working — fix bugs, understand failures, and improve what is clearly not working;
  • enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines, and act on reports;
  • protect people from spam, fraud, impersonation and abuse;
  • meet legal obligations that apply to us.

We do not sell your personal information.

Who your information is shared with

  • Other people on Witoh — the point of the product. What is visible to whom follows from what you post and where you post it.
  • Service providers — companies that run parts of the service for us, such as hosting, storage, content delivery, notification delivery, and error reporting. They may handle information only to provide that service to us, and not for their own purposes.
  • If our business changes — in a merger, acquisition or similar transaction, information may transfer as part of it. This policy continues to apply to it unless and until you are told otherwise.
  • Where the law requires it — see the next section.

Storage and security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access — including encrypting traffic between the app and our servers, and limiting internal access to what people need to do their jobs.

No service can promise perfect security, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If we become aware of a breach that affects you, we will tell you and the relevant authorities where we are required to.

How long we keep information

We keep information for as long as your account exists and for as long as it is needed for the purposes set out in this policy. After that it is deleted or de-identified.

Retention differs by category — an account record, a crash log and a moderation report are not the same thing — so we do not state a single period here. Where a law requires us to keep something for a set time, we keep it for that time and no longer than we have to.

Content you shared with other people may remain visible to them after you delete your account, in the same way a message you sent does not disappear from someone else’s phone.

Your choices

  • Edit or remove profile information at any time in the app.
  • Delete individual posts and content you have created.
  • Change or withdraw device permissions in your device settings.
  • Turn notifications off, in the app or in your device settings.
  • Delete your account entirely — see Delete account.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, export or object to our use of your personal information. Write to us at support@witohapp.com and we will respond. We may need to verify who you are before we act on a request.

Deleting your account

You can request deletion of your Witoh account from within the app, or by writing to us if you cannot get into the app. Deleting an account removes or de-identifies the personal information associated with it, except where we are required or permitted to keep something — for example to comply with a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or enforce our agreements.

The full instructions are on the account deletion page.

Children

Witoh is not intended for children. You must be at least 13 years old to hold an account, and older where local law requires it. If we learn that we hold personal information from a child below the applicable age, we will delete it.

If you believe a child has an account on Witoh, tell us at support@witohapp.com.

Where information is processed

Witoh may be operated from, and information may be stored and processed in, a country other than the one you live in. Wherever it is processed, we apply this policy to it and take steps to protect it appropriately.

Changes to this policy

As Witoh changes, this policy will change with it. When we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where it matters, tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Witoh after a change means the updated policy applies to you.

This policy describes how Witoh handles information today. It is not a summary of your legal rights, which differ by country. If something here conflicts with a right you have where you live, that right applies.
